Children will learn the fundamentals of art and the properties of various art mediums by making paints, tools, brushes, and other mediums, out of materials found in nature. Discover how watercolors are made. Make a paintbrush out of a snake plant or twigs or even human hair (mine not theirs)! Make beeswax crayons colored with plant powders. All while discovering Color Theory, the fundamentals of drawing, and with a splash of art history woven throughout..

Abstract painting with broad brushstrokes in shades of green, yellow, orange, and red.

Natural art is messy by design. Plant pigments stain. Natural art is not washable like mass produced art supplies. Making messes and exploration through experimentation is an integral part of child development and encouraged in my classes.
